Traveling in an elevator.

Empress Hotel Victoria British Columbia. Vancouver Island,   March 1973.  We all were riding down the hotel’s elevator and when we arrived at the main lobby, wife and I stepped out in to the lobby and ever so quickly the elevator door closed behind us.  However our 3-year-old daughter Monica was still in theContinue reading “Traveling in an elevator.”

Who needs inflight entertainment,anyway.

Eventful flying. Spouse and I have flown here and there on occasion.  Sometimes taking our daughters along with us.  None the less, always a momentary adventure. Our oldest daughter flew with us several decades ago on Canadian Pacific flying from Honolulu to Vancouver, BC.  A six-hour red eye overnight flight.  CP air must notContinue reading “Who needs inflight entertainment, anyway.”

Boy were they happy.

Flying the boys home. November 1973 Sheba our three-year-old daughter and myself were flying on what they called a MAC flight from Honolulu.  The flight, on a PanAm 747 was mostly loaded with US Marines coming back from Vietnam.  A joyous flight for sure. To back up, Sheba was back then an employee ofContinue reading “Boy were they happy.”

I’ll watch the bag. You go pee.

After celebrating Christmas with the In-laws on the mainland. Wife and I were sitting in the waiting area at the San Francisco airport or SFO.  Waiting on our plane to depart going back to Honolulu to our island home.  Then a distinguished swarthy looking middle eastern man in a nice gray tailored suit andContinue reading “I’ll watch the bag. He will do anything for popcorn.

Then there was Rickles another Yellow Lab. A dog who wrote the book on pleasing.  He loved to please most anyone in his presents.  He would do almost anything to get a scratch behind the ear.  But he would fall to the ground to keep from getting his ears swabbed out.  He couldn’t flattenContinue reading “He will do anything for popcorn.”

He was not a chocolate Lab.

They were all Labs. I was partnered up with three different guide dogs. All were yellow labs. Most were just about blond or creamy white. But boy could they shed. My first guide was named Axle. He was about 20 or 21 months when I started working with him. He was trained first by aContinue reading “He was not a chocolate Lab.”

A great place to buy potato chips.

It was a wonderful place to visit. The banyan tree in Lahaina Maui was one good reason to visit the old whaler village. Its expansive canopy almost covered the entire park. Yes, it was severely burned but efforts are now underway to revive it. Not being an expert arborist I’m not sure how this isContinue reading “A great place to buy potato chips.”

Wheels are down and we’re coming in.

Low flying pie in the sky. April 1967. We had just moved down from Sacramento getting ready for me to start classes at Pepperdine L A. For a short while at first we lived in a large apartment complex in Inglewood with pool and was somewhat expensive. But it was a month to month andContinue reading “Wheels are down and we’re coming in.”

Golf balls and rainbows.

The bluest skies ever with the whitest cotton puff clouds along with an occasional rainbow is what we moved to in 1972. And certainly, away from the smoky gray L A basin. So, we winged away to what some travelers call paradise. Honolulu is where we flew away to. Far away about 2500 miles fromContinue reading “Golf balls and rainbows.”
